4th May, 2010, facilitated an enquiry in the House of Lords. Participants, both youth and adult, came from a wide variety of Community Philosophy projects based in Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sunderland and York and included representatives of voluntary organisations and government departments, such as the Cabinet office and the NHS. Thanks also to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and their ex-CEO, now Lord Best who made this possible. I was ably assisted by Steve Bramall of philosophy in education, another active in the world of practical philosophy and with whom I often collaborate, who did a great job in tracking, recording and reflecting back to the audience their dialogue.

The stimulus for this event was that wonderfully provocative image “Ludgate Hill – A block in the Street” created by Gustave Doré (1832-1883), a French illustrator, and published in ‘London, A Pilgrimage’ in 1872.
