Graeme photo close upGraeme has a background in youth work, community education and community development. Since 2000, he has been a freelance researcher, trainer, lecturer and education consultant with special interests in detached and street-based youth work, youth social policy, informal education, democratic education, participation and the use of philosophical tools to support learning. Graeme was Project

Director of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation sponsored New Earswick Community Philosophy Project and also leads a philosophy inspired Community Cohesion programme for Sunderland City Council.

As Vice-Chair of the Federation for Detached Youth Work, Graeme represents the UK in Dynamo International, an international network of street educators. He is the author of Reconnecting Detached Youth Work: Guidelines and Standards for Excellence (2007) and Learning from detached youth work: democratic education (2008), published by the Nuffield Review of 14-19 education, for which he has been a Core Group member and advisor to its ‘NEET’-focused Engaging Youth Enquiry.

Graeme is a part-time PhD student at the Institute of Education, University of London.
